Soon-to-be ASU graduate hopes to stop phones from overheating in the Arizona heat

PHEONIX — A soon-to-be Arizona State University graduate has developed a way to prevent cell phones from overheating during Arizona’s triple-digit summers.

Jordan Fourcher, CEO of Fourcher Tech, developed the CryoCase and CryoPad while he was studying Technological Entrepreneurship and Management at ASU.

Fourcher tells KTAR News 92.3 FM that he got the idea for the devices after getting tired of his phone overheating during the summer.

The CryoCase can keep phones cool because of a unique paint that dissipates heat and reflects 95% of incoming sunlight.

“When it has a clear view of the sky it can get around 15 degrees colder than the ambient temperature, no electricity needed, no freezing, no shaking, you just need a clear view of the sky,” Fourcher said.

The pad has a similar function but can also speed up charging and protect battery health.

“The CryoPad is a wireless charger that actively cools your phone,” Fourcher said.

He said the pad does this by using a micro water-cooling system in conjunction with a thermoelectric plate.

Fourcher stresses that his goal for the company is to make cooling electronic devices easier because a lot of cooling alternatives aren’t practical.

“I wondered if there were ways to make cool convenient, and that’s exactly what my company’s basically catchphrase is, it’s cool convenient,” Fourcher said.

He said both devices are in the prototype phase but they both work great, adding he’s in the process of making them look nice.

“Putting them in a shell that looks nice and optimizing some of the electronics to make sure that they perform well,” Fourcher said.

Fourcher said they’re also looking for a manufacturer and he hopes to have the devices available by next summer.

“I do plan on launching a Kickstarter by this summer or at least by the end of the summer,” he said. “I want to do the Kickstarter and maybe see do people like the design we have, do people even want the product?”

More information on the devices can be found online.
